Bush and Benedict share much common ground, particularly in opposing abortion, gay marriage and embryonic stem cell research. But they disagree on other issues, including the war in Iraq, the death penalty and the U.S. trade embargo against Cuba.

Bush sought out friendly faces during this European trip, said to be his last while President.

The Pope was exceptionally nice to Bush, spending a lot of time with him, and opening up private sections of the Vatican rarely seen by outsiders. I guess the Pope thought it best to go with the sweetness instead of the vinegar with Bush this visit.

The Pope is the leader in the world of the Catholic church and as such he knows and has specified the Catholic interpretation opposing abortion, gay marriage, and embryonic stem cell research. Bush is a Methodist born again christian without much religious training or stature within his religion. It is unfair to declare that the two men agreed on these matters.

Do not even think that the Pope supports George Bush.

If Bush needs a confessor to talk to everyday, I am sure the Pope can recommend someone.
