The Two Pair of Pants CarWhen I first heard of the hybrid car I thought it was a funny joke. The car manufacturers have been making gasoline fueled cars for a century and the California electric car, even though hundreds of people loved them, was banished by good old President Bush junior , oil interests, and the Detroit car manufacturers. The hybrid car reminded me of the old advertisements of a men's suit with two pair of pants which is no longer available.
The suit with 2 pairs of pants was an economical offering to the public because most men wear out the pants well before the jacket, so 2 pairs of pants would extend the usefulness of the jacket.
I still think that the hybrid is a joke because why would anyone want to buy a car with 2 engines? I think the hybrid car was bult to exploit consumers.
If the California plug electric car program, where there were thousands available and leased by consumers was not sabotaged by Bush and big business, America could possibly have millions of them consuming electric in use today minimizing on the use of fossil fuels imported from abroad. GM's Saturn division had the vehicle that appealed to me the most at the time they were limmitedly available. I think Saturn could have sold at least a million of them, maybe 2 or 3 million since then, but they had to ignore the consumers and refused to build more, in fact they recalled all of their vehicles and destroyed all of them except I think one that remains in a museum. Dumb move, again, GM.
Now we have this hybrid vehicle which the consumer pays for 2 engines which runs on liquid carbon fuel (usually gasoline) and sometimes on battery power.
Plug compatible vehicles will be available in the American market in 2009 by Toyota and 2010 by Nissan and other manufacturers have plans to sell their electric cars too. I think most people will have to order and wait for delivery of an electric car. I think the demand will be very high for them and most people will have to wait from one to four years to take delivery.
The hybrid car or as I like to call it the 2 pair of pants car is a sick joke from our the Republicans led by President George Bush and big business.
When there are millions of electric cars on our streets, I hope our electric utilities have the capacity to recharge them. But that takes planning and leadership which the Republicans are incapable of doing.
